Recently, in the state of California, the company Anthem Blue Cross has announced as much as a 39% increase in health care premiums for those with private, non-group coverage. As if health insurance did not cost enough these days, now almost a 40% increase? That seems crazy. As a concerned citizen, I do believe we need change in our health care system to make it more affordable, but with what is currently on the table, I can do without.
However, does this not seem very convenient that right as the discussion about health care heats up, a private company raises their premiums 39%? This is a great time for Democratic leaders to step in and say that this will be all more common if health care reform is not passed. The timing could not be better.
I guess you all get what I am saying. Did the Democrats have something to do with this rate hike to give themselves a better argument? I will leave that for you to decide. I really hope not, and don't think, that is the case. But you never know!

I think it's just a case of getting the dough while the getting's still good.
ReplyDeleteGood post... I agree a 40% increase in premiums is outrageous!!! This will lead to a much higher rate of uninsured individuals...which will then lead to higher costs...and then the premiums will have to increase again to compensate for the lost revenue. Healthcare is in a downward spiral!
